Sorry for this late comment; as a regular victim of traffic jams, I cannot be insensitive. Allow me to put it in other words, less poetical, let’s say :D

Beyond the anger, frustration and powerlessness that we might feel when moving with the stunning speed of 0.6 km/h or even less, this is a classic example of a non-cooperative game, of a situation where the individual quest for self-utility leads to a general dissatisfaction and to an under optimal equilibrium. More accurately: we buy more and more cars in order to increase our personal comfort (faster transportation, better conditions etc), but the aggregate result is the opposite of what we aimed for (…this is a bare explanation of a complex concept).

As a sad consolation prize, all major cities have to deal with similar problems. Still, most of them are already implementing long-term solutions: creating the right incentives and the appropriate infrastructure for alternative transportation, road taxes, parking taxes, gas taxes etc. It sounds good, but this doesn’t help us much: though we have access to solutions and precedents, the solution is up to the authorities, which gives us anything but certainty.

So, what can we do for the time being? I think you found an answer: sit patiently in our cars, admire the urban jungle, full-size.

Maddening ulcer-provoking traffic, feeling of suffocation in the middle of stuck cohorts of honking cars, sidewalks barbarically turned into impromptu parking lots, being late as a worsening chronic disease, the terror of missing flights caused by the unpredictably long way to the airport, hours and hours of compulsory listening to imbecile radio deejays, thick smog desaturating already grayscale places.

We fucking hate the city we love, don’t we?
