With decent marketing, comparable performance and half the price, a photoshop killer would have it quite easy. &lt;p&gt;it costs as much as a small car because, if you play your cards right, you get that money back soon - and then make some more. Unlike a small car, whose only certainty is deprecation. (unless you're into delivery)&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;also, about acrobat load times: i agree. But nobody forces anyone to use the adobe reader. Afaik, the pdf format is open to developers, so anyone can take on killing adobe reader with a better product. Again, it's another window of opportunity, till Adobe figures it out that 'hey, if we solve everything on the whiners' list, we become GOD'.&lt;/p&gt;
